Trajan Trajan everywhere
Trajan, Carol Twombly's beautifully drawn 1989 typeface based upon letterforms from Rome's Trajan Column, has long been known as "The Movie Poster Font." Unfortunately, it's making the rounds as the face of choice for college and university identity redesigns as well, with less than optimal results. Here's a partial list of American schools featuring Trajan as the primary typeface in their identities. You would think these schools (some big names here) would seek to differentiate themselves, not blend in.
A partial list: University of Kansas, University of Notre Dame, Amherst College, Wesleyan University, Smith College, SUNY Maritime College, Northwest Arkansas Community College, Sacramento State, The University of Texas at Austin, Aquinas College, Columbia University, The University at Albany (#StretchArmstrong), Kentucky Community and Technical College, The Citadel, Pitzer College, Lawrence University, Mary Baldwin College, University of Charleston, The Lonestar College System (#doublefail), Western Kentucky University.
